A Few Gentle Reminders

Here are a few gentle reminders for you because it's easy to forget:
You are not broken.
Even if you feel that way or were told that you are. You went through some sh*t, developed some maladaptive coping patterns, and that's ok. You can slowly develop new ones.
You are not alone.
We all do VERY SIMILAR SH*T! At the end of the day, our brains are constantly striving for their version of safety. You're not weird or unique in a bad way. It's just that few people are telling the truth, so we all feel like hot messes and beat ourselves up.
All you ever need to change something that's not working for you is a willingness to be a little uncomfortable.
The absolute intolerance for discomfort keeps us "stuck" in patterns of people pleasing, never saying no, throwing ourselves under the bus, overeating, over-drinking, not asking that person to go for coffee, not applying for the job that seems out of reach, or spending the holidays with people who bring you down.
When you learn a few simple things about your precious and normal brain, you can work with it instead of trying to stop or get rid of your thoughts and feelings.
Brains are gonna brain, and it's not a problem. The problem is when we make our brain "braining" mean something negative about ourselves and then think we need to FIX IT to be happy. 'Ya don't. This reminder was a complete game-changer for my life, and I'm practising this on a daily basis. The growing inner peace I feel instead of the inner war I used to is a jetstream of fresh air!
Kitten steps are more than enough and all we need to strive for.
Our nervous systems do best with minor tweaks, not being forced or shoved into a complete 180* from what it's used to. Want to move your body more? Go for a walk around the block. You don't need to join a gym and take twenty classes a month. Want to have better connections with your favourite people? Send a text to say hello. You don't need to go to dinner or a vacation together. Keep it as simple and fun as possible. Go for the low-hanging fruit!
I really do believe in you!! Because I believe in everything I wrote above, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can get to where you want to go, even if you're unsure where that is. We were born with the ability to change, grow, and thrive, and I'm cheering so damn hard for you every single day!!
