Do You Need a Money Coach?

It's easy to think that hiring a money coach will be a bit like planting a 'magic money tree' in the garden, and whoosh! There you go! Money forever! 

But no. 

Despite popular belief, money coaches are not, in fact, magicians (sorry); however, for all of you reading, illusions shattered to pieces, I will caveat that statement to say that whilst not magicians in the traditional sense, they are indeed alchemists. 

One such alchemist is Mindful Money Coach Ilana Jankowitz. I know many of you will recognise Ilana as one of our esteemed Guest Editors and columnists, but you may not know that I was a client of Ilana's before that. 

Now, I always said that when I bring writers and coaches to our table, they have to have a certain level of credibility. I began working with a Money Coach because I wanted more clarity in my business. In addition, as I was starting a self-employment journey after 20+ years of corporate, I wanted to make sure I could spend and save wisely. This is not what happened, well, not entirely. Ilana started by identifying my money archetypes and what they meant for me in my life today via her online quiz. At the time, I didn't see the reason. What was an archetype anyway? But under Ilana's guidance, I was able to see clearly behaviours in my spending, some good and some not so good. We identified together consistent patterns and began to link behaviours to past events and unravel issues I not only wasn't aware of but which had honestly never even crossed my mind! 

Week by week, working through Ilana's exercises and homework (yes, there's homework), things started to move; I felt lighter, less burdened and in complete control. When I let go of the 'money stuff', my business focus became crystal clear, and without having to 'do' anything, my life began to change. I wasn't working on it to be that way, but it was like suddenly someone had switched a light on, and it was all so clear. 

While being a fantastic and knowledgeable coach, Ilana is also your biggest cheerleader and your most swift kick up the backside when you need it (I needed a few along the way), and you don't talk about money all the time! In fact, you don't talk about money nearly as much as you think you will, yet the changes you make an impact on your finances in a BIG way, as I said earlier, alchemists! 

When my coaching with Ilana was finished, I could see, for real, that my physical situation was improved, but not only that, I was much more in control. It was as if she handed me the reigns back to my life, and I felt, possibly for the first time, that I was in the driving seat, and I no longer needed a Land Rover Defender to navigate the terrain ahead! Hurrah! 

Personally, I would say that hiring a money coach was one of the best financial and practical decisions I have ever made. It changed my life in so many surprising ways, and now I have the mindset and the tools to take with me whenever the road ahead takes me; and as a bonus, Ilana runs a free group for her clients, so I get ongoing support and ideas from women who have walked my path!
