Finding your writing voice

Finding your voice in creative writing can be a challenge, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Your voice is how you express yourself through writing and how you can make your writing stand out. Finding your voice can take some time, but it's essential to being a successful writer.

Here are some tips for finding your voice in creative writing:

Decide why you want to write.

Do you like to inform people of something? Motivate them? Inspire them? Educate them? Tell a story? Get clear on your why, and the rest will follow.

Read widely and often.

Reading is one of the best ways to find your voice in creative writing. Reading helps to open up new perspectives and gives you ideas and inspiration for your writing.

Listen to yourself.

Take time to think about what you want to say and how you want to say it. Listen to your thoughts and feelings, and use them to help shape your writing.

Experiment with different styles and genres.

Trying out different styles and genres can give you an understanding of what works and what doesn't and can help you find your own unique voice.

Get feedback from others.

Getting feedback from others can give you an idea of how your writing is coming across and can help you understand what you need to work on.

To truly get better, you need to write often.

You don't get better at playing the guitar without practising, and writing is no different. Also, think about how you write. Are you putting your point across powerfully?

Keep it simple.

Simple language can be more potent than complex language and help make your writing more engaging. Be authentic. Be true to yourself and your writing, and don't try to copy someone else's style.

Be descriptive.

Descriptive language can make your writing more interesting and help make your stories more engaging.

Be yourself.

Don't be afraid to show your personality in your writing; don't be scared to take risks. In a noisy online world, standing out with your voice and your stories is essential because they make you and your business unique.
