Is Your Trauma Sabotaging Your Business Success?

By Janine Wirth.

You might be wondering what trauma has to do with the success of your business, and the short answer is A LOT. You are the constant in your business, so if your mind is trying to manage, make sense of or heal unresolved trauma- you're carrying that with you in every single interaction, whether it's a dinner with your partner or a sales call with a new potential client.

Now, most people think that they can consciously control their thoughts, but the sneaky thing about unresolved trauma is that most of it is playing out on a subconscious level- so yes, with practice, you can become very focused while completing a task; however, your decision making and how you react in certain situations are still primarily driven by your subconscious mind where your childhood conditioning and negative beliefs are stored.

Let's look at a real-life example showing how this plays out for many of my clients.

The Conflict of Duality

As an entrepreneur, you obviously desire to be successful. So, on the one hand, this is an essential driver for you, and you know that you will need to take certain actions to reach that desired outcome. Easy right?

However, what if you hold the subconscious belief that you're not good enough or worthy of success? Believe me, it is very common amongst entrepreneurs.

It is now causing an internal war between your conscious desire to be successful and your subconscious belief that you don't deserve it.

So this could look like you planning out a launch to create a cash injection into your business, but then when you start taking those actions, your nervous system gets triggered, causing you to get dysregulated, and then you start self-sabotaging. This could mean that you suddenly go into freeze mode and start procrastinating (although you know exactly what you are "supposed" to be doing) and have an unsuccessful launch. Does this sound familiar?

This is a vicious cycle because every time you "fail," you reaffirm that subconscious belief that you simply don't deserve success or aren't worthy of it.

What happens next is that your nervous system will need some time to recover- this can vary between a few weeks to even a few months before you get back on the horse, ready to try again. However, to help yourself, because you don't understand what is going on, most of you will buy another course or join another program thinking that you lack the know-how or skill-set to make it work.

Now, obviously, you need particular skills to run a successful business. Still, my question to you is how many times have you kept on buying courses and either don't complete them (hello freebie and course graveyard) or do them and then realise the information isn't new, and you actually knew most of it on an intellectual level already?

Being aware of the pattern playing out, unfortunately, isn't enough. This is when you find someone like me who specialises in trauma, so you can do the inner work necessary to make your mind your biggest asset instead of your biggest enemy in your business. This includes processing unresolved trauma and learning how to identify your triggers and ways to regulate your nervous system so that you can take action while feeling safe without overwhelming anxiety or eventually burnout.

If this is something you want to explore, I would like to extend an invitation to you to join my free virtual workshop "Master Your Mind to Make More Money", happening on Monday the 16th of May at 2 pm UK/3 pm Berlin/9 am NY
