Prioritising Peace over Panic: Turns Out Love Really Is All Around This Christmas.

By Tricia Scott.

As I write to you today, I am sitting in a pavement cafe with a large mug of hot chocolate, watching the world zoom by (literally), and I'm thinking about the speed at which life seems to whizz past. It can often feel disorganised and chaotic, which, in turn, sends our stress levels into the stratosphere, causing us to think and act differently than we usually would.

Case in point, I just watched a woman almost lose her shit in the coffee shop because the barista didn't leave enough room for milk in her giant coffee cup. She was loaded down with bags, tall rolls of wrapping paper swiping at the legs of unsuspecting passers-by, heralding a chorus of tutting and shoving. As an observer, it is easy to see that this is probably not this woman's usual behaviour (I would certainly hope not), and her ringing phone, while juggling the bags, was enough to send her over the proverbial edge. The barista, on the other hand, simply going about his (very busy) day in a Christmas Jumper that probably made his body temperature dangerously close to 'lava' apologised, obliged and then gave her a biscuit with a smile and went out of his way to get her a seat and somewhere to store her overflowing shopping mountain.

As we move toward the holiday season, things can fall into this busy pattern, making challenges harder to manage and our logical thinking to fly out of the window faster than the coming and going of the latest TikTok trend.

In the days ahead, if life feels overwhelming or chaotic, use these words to remind yourself that you can navigate anything this world throws at you when you're confident, calm, and grounded.

The grounding process looks different for different people, but if you're unsure where to start, simply put your hand over your heart, close your eyes and connect to your breath (literally just notice your breath going in and out of your body). Tune out the noise and feel your breath slowing and your body connecting to the floor or chair. Look around and notice the things around you. Just a moment of seeing the here and now and being present is often enough to return to a calm mind. After all, this moment is the only control we will ever truly have.

Above all, remember you are as worthy as anyone of a fun and fabulous holiday season!

Update: As I wrap up the Biz Love Letter, formerly irate Newcastle is sipping her coffee, having apologised to the barista and given each of the staff a candy cane out of the depths of her shopping bags and is currently smiling into her phone.Perhaps love really is all around this Christmas...

As always, I believe in you.
