That Girl Meets JDesray Hicks, CEO of Dessy & Co and Serial Entrepreneur

JDesray has always been the friend you go to when you need fashion advice. From a young age, her family and friends relied on JDesray to help them shape and curate their closets. Inspired by her mother to get up and be dressed in her god-given style, JDesray caters to women of all shapes and sizes in her high-scale fashion boutique, Dessy&Co.

Dessy&Co. offers a variety of styles and shopping options online and on her storefront. She carries sizing that includes everything from zero to 3x and 4x. Her boutique is a favourite among Detroit's Metro area full-figured women looking for high-scale fashion and evening wear. Dessy & Co also ships internationally.

Since opening in October 2020, Dessy&Co. has drawn and cultivated a loyal customer base with unique offerings. Some customers regularly come in to update their wardrobes and connect with the community JDesray has built. On the horizon are a second location and mobile boutique. I asked Jdesray a few questions; here's what she had to say;

How do you want people to feel when they visit Dessy & Co?

I want everyone to feel welcome and like they have a size and place there. My mission is to help women love their clothes and have a happy experience shopping for them.

Did you always know you were going to be The Female CEO?

My career started with a nursing background and working in an adult foster care home. From there, I went into real estate and began flipping houses. In June 2020, my husband, Xavier Hicks, told me to [do what you want] and open the boutique. With his support and persistence and my children's patience, the boutique came to life. I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit.

What's next for Dessy & Co?

Dessy & Co will be getting a new pair of wheels and taking the boutique on the road. A second retail store is in the works, with more events and community-driven initiatives.

What's sets Dessy & Co aside from anyone else?

Today you can book me as your stylist to consult or book VIP hours as your shopper. I have hosted Girls Night, bachelorette parties, and custom events onsite and offer Bridal Party Styling. Opening the boutique has provided me with the chance to bring my party planning expertise and fashion sense together in a powerful way. I believe in curating Real Clothes for Real Women. I always like to tell how my guest and I met in my articles. My daughter and I were racing to the gas station to grab a few snacks for my office. Running past your window, I was captivated by the fashion and modern style of the facility. The tone of the fashion had me at HELLO! Since that moment, I've been a die-hard shopper.
