That Girl Meets; Latrice Delgado-Macon, Owner and Founder of TheStylingCloset.com
By Natasha Lee.
Meet entrepreneur Latrice Delgado-Macon, owner and founder of TheStylingCloset.com. Established in 2005, this Female CEO had goals for her company, such as providing a fashion go-to for contemporary and chic styles and a blog offering tips on all the latest trends.
From childhood, Latrice had ambitions to become a fashion stylist. Perhaps her interest in fashion was inspired by her grandmother, a model and seamstress. At a young age, Latrice was fascinated by the many tastes and styles people used to create their behaviour and how they conducted themselves was intrinsically linked to their choices. The child version of this entrepreneur loved to experiment with her mother’s make-up, clothing, shoes, and accessories.
Aside from running her own company, Latrice is the current Mrs Michigan Continental Worldwide. She describes this opportunity as being surreal and a genuine learning experience, stating that she has learned valuable lessons in responsibility, discipline, patience, and punctuality during this journey. She has also established many friendships with other contestants from around the country, learning about different states, cultures, and traditions.
Having been a Female CEO for two years, Latrice Delgado-Maconand credits her team for playing an essential role in becoming the person she is today.
Latrice and I have had the great experience of collaborating on several projects. Further, remember when That Girl launched in Macy’s? Latrice styled the #thatgirl tribe for the That Girl for Macy’s x, That Girl premiere at Macy’s Department stores. It’s always a pleasure catching up with Latrice; I asked her a few questions about her journey; here’s what she had to say.

Tell us more about the styling closet?
The Styling Closet is a personal styling service for men and women that grows with your tastes, needs, and lifestyle.
Why do you have a passion for the fashion industry?
My passion for fashion comes from my grandmother, a model and seamstress who watched street fashion in the 80s and was inspired by arts and culture. It allows me to use my creativity as an artist.
What inspired you to compete in pageants?
I feel inspired to compete in pageants because they challenge me to face my fears! You learn so many things about yourself and communication skills, leadership, interviews, and poise! Pageantry is a doorway for those who want to be on stage, give back, and, of course, learn more about themselves! I never saw pageantry as a competition, and I always looked at it as a learning experience. From the entire weekend, you learn so much that it’s beyond mind-blowing what you can grasp!
What inspired you to become a fashion stylist?
Since a young girl, I’ve always wanted to be a fashion stylist because I admired my grandmother. As a child, I always played with my mother’s make-up, along with mixing and matching her clothes and shoes.
The styles of different people, how they look, dress, behave and handle themselves, have always fascinated me. I work as a hair and make-up stylist, along with managing my own business and the gratification I get when I see the look of a hairstyle and the dramatic change it gives a client is priceless. I am constantly driven by the many clients who recommend me to friends, email to share their happiness about the new look, and all who keep coming back. That warmth, hugs, smiles, and feeling that “Wow, she looks great!” is fantastic. I love to makeover people and see the immediate results.
How long have you been a Female CEO? How important are your staff members to you?
I have been a female CEO now for two years! My team is family to me. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it weren’t for them.
How would you define beauty?
Beauty comes from within - you are beauty, and beauty is you. You are a masterpiece - a work of art. There is only one you, and there will never be another!
Tell us about your journey to becoming Mrs Michigan Continental Worldwide.
My journey has been surreal. It taught me values for life such as discipline, punctuality, responsibility, and patience and with thirty contestants from different states, I made friends for life! We all learn about each other’s states, traditions, and cultures, and I love diversity!
What can we expect from Mrs Michigan Continental Worldwide? What initiatives are you currently working on?
You will see me use my platform to speak to young leaders on Mental Health and following my dreams. I will also use my platform to use my voice and advocate for my community.
What are your thoughts on self-care for both men and women? Can fashion be used as self-care?
Fashion is definitely self-care. Scream it from the rooftops, whisper it in your dog’s ear, write it in a journal. Do whatever you need to do to internalise the idea that the clothing you put on your body is just as important as your other health and wellness self-care practices.
Fashion self-care has become one of the most critical movements stemming from COVID-19, and we are all about it. It’s the therapy we all need and deserve. By being mindful about the clothes you wear, you can improve your confidence, boost your self-esteem, enhance joy, and minimise anxieties and stresses even when working from home. Ask yourself, what is fashion self-care, and how can you show yourself some love through your clothing?
