There Is No Race, I Set the Pace

By Tricia Scott

I'm back into my dancing shoes over here at The Female CEO and literally bursting with ideas.

This tends to be a pattern for me. I go into introspection and hibernation over the holidays, and, in all honesty, I find it really difficult to get back into the swing of things come January, but once I get past the first week or two, it's like my brain remembers who TF it is and springs back into entrepreneurial action.

A couple of things on this.

Quiet time of the holidays is a non-negotiable for me. My brain works at 400mph most of the day, and I've learned to take my downtime as seriously as my working hours (if any of you have emailed me lately, you will know this from my auto-responder). Back in my corporate days, holidays were usually spent waiting for hours on end to see a doctor with severe tonsilitis or something equally as festive (not) because I'd worked myself into the ground. As soon as I took time off, my body saw its opportunity to force rest; no more of that, thank you!

Getting back into the swing of things after time off can feel utterly draining, but I've learned to do things that pep me up as I prepare to get back to work, such as remembering there are no rules. All of the hoopla about the first of January being THE day to have your shit together or it's all going to go downhill is crap. You can run, walk, dance or tiptoe into the New Year without fear or guilt. The year is what you make it day to day. Please don't fall for it.

Reaching out to my favourite biz people and arranging catch-ups in the first few weeks of the year had been solid GOLD. Coffee, cocktails, it doesn't matter; those conversations are everything. It's not all business talk, far from it, but I always come away with new perspectives and ideas, and my brain starts to get that familiar, excited buzz, ready to take on the world once more. My advice? Find your business tribe and love them hard.

So, if you've been feeling a little bit lost off while the rest of the entrepreneurial world seems to be ON FIRE (especially on social media), give yourself a break; you are not alone, and most of it is hype. Social media is just someone else's highlight reel and cannot, in any way, be compared to day-to-day life. If the content inspires you, great! If it doesn't, scroll past it and don't give it a second thought.

Your time, your way.

You're doing great, and I believe in you (always),

Tricia xo
